As the top Heart Walk fundraiser at BWH as of two weeks ago, Robert Goldszer, MD, MBA, associate chief medical officer, received a free iPod Shuffle from the American Heart Association (AHA). Goldszer and his team “The Goldszer Heartsavers” surpassed their team goal of $5,000, which will contribute to BWH's goal of $110,000.
“The walk is very important for BWH, and I am committed to helping the hospital reach its goal,” said Goldszer. “I also know about the impact of heart disease and stroke and the wonderful research we do here to prevent and treat it. Any funds we can receive to help our faculty help our patients is important.”
To help his teammates meet their goals, Goldszer shared his fundraising tactics with BWH Bulletin.
“The AHA makes it really easy to raise money-the Heart Walk web site is extremely helpful and includes previously generated content for emails that walkers can send to friends and family asking for donations,” he said.
“When I committed to the Heart Walk, I thought about my friends, family and colleagues who would likely participate in helping patients to prevent and cure stroke and heart disease. I take my information on AHA to all meetings I attend and leave it on the table for my colleagues to read and make donations if they wish. Through the AHA web site, I sent e-mails to 204 people, using AHA content that I edited slightly.”
